FAQ

Do you allow pets or service animals at the cabins?

No.  Pets are not permitted at our cabin.

Do your cabins allow smoking?

Smoking is strictly forbidden inside our cabins. However, you are free to smoke outside the cabin. Please use good sense and courtesy regarding your ashes, butts, or other potentially hazardous materials.  There are pots located on the decks to dispose of cigarette butts.

What is your cancellation policy?

Fees will be fully refunded if cancellation is made 31 days prior to check in date.

We are now including the option for guests to buy travel insurance – either standard or CFAR (cancel for any reason) - when booking a vacation rental cabin.  Needing to cancel dates can occur and it helps to have travel insurance if the unforeseen happens.  We sell travel insurance directly through our software provider and provide you links to buy it with your booking.  It typically costs about 7% for standard and about 9% for CFAR.

Do you charge extra for additional guests?

Our base rental rate includes four guests, not just two.  Children are considered in the guest count.  There is a $25 per night, per person additional guest fee up to the maximum of 8 guests per cabin.

Do I have to bring my own bedding or towels?

Bedding is provided for all beds/sleeper sofas in our cabins.  Quality towels and kitchen linens are also provided.  Linens/towels are not allowed to be removed from the cabin.  Please bring beach towels for any outdoor activity.

What cooking/eating utensils will I need?

Our cabins are provided with all ordinary cooking equipment, including pans, general bakeware, cutlery, dishware, and grilling tools. Unless you have a specific and unusual requirement, you should not need to bring anything to cook with.

Do you provide charcoal for the grill?

Yes, we provide charcoal and lighter fluid. We make every attempt to keep the supplies in stock.  We do not offer an outdoor gas grill.

Do you provide wood for the fire pit?

Yes, we make every effort to keep firewood in stock at our cabins.  We also provide fire starting aids.

Will my cellphone work in your cabin?

Usually.  Verizon plans tend to have the best coverage in the Shawnee region.  Some guests may need to go outside the cabin to get a better signal.

Do you have WiFi?

At this time we do not have WiFi at the cabins.

Do I have to clean up after myself?

We do not expect you to do laundry or major cleaning.  We do ask that you clean up any spills and address spills on linens should they occur.  We ask guests to wash their used dishes, clean the coffee pot, and take out all trash and place the bags in the outdoor garbage containers provided.  We do appreciate if the wet towels can be left in the bath and sleeper sofa linens are left out so we can easily tell they need laundered.

Will I be hit with charges for consumables or minor damages?

We expect a certain amount of wear and tear, as well as consumption of products. We expect you to use the paper products, soaps, shampoos, etc., and there'll be no charge. We also understand that light bulbs blow, plates break, and there may be the occasional scratch on the wall. We charge only for unreasonable damage or missing items that can't be considered normal usage – lost towels, torn or heavily stained comforters, a hole bashed in the wall, that sort of significant and unusual thing.

Can I check in early?

Possibly.  You must contact the owner for permission in advance.  You should contact us a few days before your arrival.

Are your cabins handicapped accessible?

No.  Our cabins are not required to meet ADA accessibility standards.

What if my guest numbers change after I make a booking?

No problem! You can simply change your guest numbers up or down by letting us know, and we'll adjust the charges accordingly.

What can you tell me about the owners?

Raised in rural Southern Illinois in a family that loved to camp and fish, Roger enjoyed the beauty of the region long before attending SIU.  In adult life, Roger has been both a home builder and a woodworker.  He also loves good wine, good food and meeting people.  And that’s how the vision for Cave Creek Cabins emerged.  The home builder designed the cabins for comfort and function.  The woodworker wanted the beautiful wood features.  But mostly, Roger wanted a great place for people to gather and relax.
